Now a partner at Smith & Haine, Mr. Haine joined Mr. Smith in the practice in 2001, after working as an Assistant Public Defender in Duval and Nassau Counties, handling Juvenile, Misdemeanor and Felony cases through trial for several years. Since joining the firm, he has expanded his criminal defense practice in both Florida and Federal Courts. One of the advantages Mr. Haine saw at Smith & Haine was the opportunity to develop a family law practice, something he had wanted to do since law school. He has become skilled in handling all aspects of family law cases, and enjoys helping his clients through a time when their lives have become severely disrupted. He is known throughout the state and federal courts for his calm demeanor, thorough preparation and plain-spoken style.
In addition to his active family law and criminal defense practice, Mr. Haine has become very well known for representing people with previous criminal problems, going to court to help them seal or expunge the records of the mistakes in their pasts.
Mr. Haine currently serves as a Director of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, representing the Northeast Florida Chapter. He also serves on the area Lawyer Strike Force, helping other criminal defense lawyers who find themselves faced with difficulties for zealously representing citizens accused of crime.
